Alee Denham - The Americas (Episode 1)

There he is. My first episode! And I'm starting in Southern Patagonia. I am currently in the southernmost area I will ever come to and the closest to Antarctica I can be. Tierre del Fuego stands for 'the land of fire' which comes from the past. When you looked over this landscape you could see bonfires everywhere. Unfortunately they are not there this afternoon, but luckily I do have a view of beautiful landscapes. Well.. on to the north!

Wind, wind and more wind. And of course it came from the front. And with the distance I still have to travel, my arrival time will be much later. After braving the headwind that lasted all day, I am finally in my residence at the Argentine border. After two hours of sleep and a cup of coffee I realize that the next part again consists of headwind with gusts of 50/60 km/h. It turns out that in the evening the wind dies down so my decision is made to go cycling in the evening.

The next morning I am annoyed. After having cycled 220km with relatively little wind, I thought I could continue this in the early morning. But I was wrong, the wind was raging and I was only able to drive at 5 km/h for an hour and sometimes even had to get off…

Fortunately, after leaving southern Patagonia, it is less windy and I go to the national park, which turns out to be one of the most beautiful in the world. I'm curious!

Once arrived I would like to welcome you to my paradise. Beautiful landscapes with floating ice blocks, mountain walls and views for miles. It's fantastic and I decide to do a three-day hike. Too bad you're not there. It just gets better and better and the view is really unbelievably beautiful.

I end with a bike ride during my bike ride. On the way to the Patagonia Ice Field which is more than 40 km long, 5 km wide and 700m deep. What a fantastic experience.

In closing words I would like to say the following. If you ever decide to cycle in Patagonia. I advise you to drive from north to south, you will almost always have the wind at your back!
